The Ordinance #180648 and Code Section 57.02.02 have changed please use the current code sections found in the 2014 Los Angeles, Fire Code under Section 57.409.1

HOW CAN I COMPLY WITH THE NEW LAFD HIGH-RISE EVACUATION ORDINANCE?

STEP ONE: HIRE PRINCIPLE FIRE SOLUTIONS

We are an approved Certified Los Angeles Fire Department High-Rise Life/Safety Service Consultant. We possess the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Certificate of Fitness Upgrade for training, testing and issuing Fire Safety Director (FSD) & Floor Warden Training (FW) Certificates.

STEP TWO:

The building owner and/or manager shall designate a Fire Safety Director.

NOTE:

Residential Properties are eligible for a floor warden exemption when a survey is conducted by property management with the tenants and there are not enough volunteers to activate the Floor Warden Program. Please submit a letter on your own letterhead to your Building Fire Inspector for an exemption approval. In all cases a Fire Safety Director shall be designated.

STEP THREE:

A Principle Fire Solutions Consultant will train and test your selected Fire Safety Directors and Floor Wardens. Upon successful completion of the test, the Consultant will issue the Fire Safety Directors and Floor Wardens their completion Certificates.

STEP FOUR:

The Principle Fire Solutions Consultant shall in conjunction with the Fire Safety Director, ensure that the Fire Safety Director (s) and all the Floor wardens Certificates are forwarded to the LAFD High Rise Inspector electronically.

Building Inventory Forms (BIF) Sheet

All high-rise buildings are required to provide the LAFD with approved building inventory sheets as part of their emergency plan. The specific information and format of these Building Inventory sheets can be obtained from the HRFLS Consultants.

Total Evacuation Drills
Buildings that have 35 stories or more are required to have a “Total Evacuation Drill” every three years. The (FSD) will be contacted by LAFD High rise Evacuations inspector to formulate an approved incident Action Plan.

The Los Angeles Fire Department recommends that all fire Safety Directors work closely with the LAFD certified High-rise Life Safety Consultants and your LAFD High-rise Inspector to obtain a thorough understanding and working knowledge of all required duties and responsibilities of the Fire Safety Director in accordance with the Los Angeles Fire Code.
